WASSAIL

1 cup sugar
1 quart (qt) water
12 whole cloves
4 sticks cinnamon
2 tablespoon (tbsp) chopped canied ginger
4 whole allspice
3 cups orange juice
2 cups lemon juice
2 quarts (qt) beer or cider

Make a syrup by boiling sugar and water for 10 min. Add spices and let stand 1 hour. Strain; add orange and lemon juice and beer. Bring quickly to the boiling point and serve.

Serves 10 to 12
