Confusion on date of cookbook?
It would seem I have created some confusion over our island cookbook. Mainly, what is the date of our island cookbook. This stems from how the online cookbook was constructed. Early in 2010 my mother passed away and within a couple of weeks three different people gave me copies of the old 1984 Herron Island Cookbook. The first recipe in the 1984 cookbook was my mothers. Twenty-five years ago, I remember mom enjoying helping a group of islanders compile our island cookbook. Since almost no one today remembers the island used to have a cookbook, I embarked on creating a simple digital copy online. About a third of the way into this project people started giving me recipes, or maybe I started asking for them. Anyway, a new Herron Island cookbook sounded like a good project to build some sorely needed community spirit. My efforts switched from building a digital copy of the 1984 Cookbook to compiling a new island cookbook. This is a rather large task done with volunteer time and people seem to think 2012 is a magical year. This I figured it would take me a couple years to collect a few hundred recipes needed to compile a solid island cookbook, so I titled my attempt at a new cookbook the 2012 Herron Island Cookbook.
As time went by, an outstanding group of island ladies formed to take on the task of preparing the new island cookbook. This cookbook committee is currently preparing our new island cookbook. To clear up some confusion, which I appear to have created, the recipes from the 1984 cookbook can be found here, while the new recipe submissions can be found here. Over time I will compile all the recipes into one online recipe collection with sub-collections for each cookbook online. -- Karl
