Apple Cake

1 1/4 cup sifted flour
1 tsp baking powder
1/2 tsp salt
1 tsp sugar
1/2 cup butter
1 egg yolk, beaten
1 tbsp milk
3/4 quart sliced apples

Mix and sift flour, baking powder, salt and sugar. Cream butter, add sifted dry ingredients and mix. Combine egg yolk and milk and add to butter mixture. Mix. Press mixture on bottom of a buttered pan, 8 x 8 inchs. Overlap apple slices into dough. Sprinkle with topping. Bake in preheated 375 degrees oven about 50 minutes.

Topping

3/4 cup sugar
1 and 1/2 tbsp flour
1/4 tsp cinnamon
2 tbsp butter

Mix sugar, flour and cinnamon; cut in butter until course.
