1 pound butter (4 cubes)
1 cup powdered sugar
2 tsp vanilla
4 and 1/2 cups flour
1/2 tsp salt
1 and 1/2 cup chopped nuts
Sharon McDonnell uses a rolling pin to roll them into balls maybe a little larger than a walnut. Bake at 350 degrees for 12 to 15 minutes.
Fill a bowl with powdered sugar and add about 4 to 5 balls. Flip the balls about a bit and coat them well and put on wax paper till very very cool and powdered sugar is fully coated. Eventually you'll be able to store them in tupperware without losing any powdered sugar.
Comments from Sharon McDonnel: This is probably the oldest and our favorite family cookie recipe and all we've ever called them were 'Balls'. Now called Sharon's Ball since there are other 'ball' recipes in this cookbook. If you love butter you will love these cookies.
This is a double recipe because a single recipe would not last one night. These are also santa's favorite.
Just talking about me. I will be making a batch tomorrow and whatever is left I will have Donny hand them out on the ferry.
