Sweet and Sour Spareribs

3 lbs spareribs
2/3 cup vinegar
3/4 cup brown sugar
1 medium diced onion
3 tbsp cooking oil
4 tbsp flour
salt and pepper
1/4 cup soy sauce added to 1 cup water

Season ribs and brown in hot oil. Mix flour and brown sugar. Sprinkle mix over ribs while they are browning. Turn frequently to prevent burning. When well browned, add remaining ingredients. Simmer, covered for 1 hour. Pineapple chunks may be added. Thicken with corn starch, if needed.
